Titration of Morphine: a Virtual Reality Simulation designed for medical students

Objective:
The faculty wanted to expand the range of practical simulations because of the challenges of organising field practice for all students. Furthermore, the recent reforms present a complicated task for educators as they have to instruct and assess the practical skills of an increased student population. Finally, the faculty wanted to guarantee comprehensive exposure for every student to various medical scenarios in relation to their course, making sure that they all acquire the necessary knowledge and expertise for effective intervention.

Solution:
Students are immersed in a sequence of scenarios focused on morphine titration as they deal with the assessment and alleviation of pain in four patients. They handle dosages, side effects, and emergency protocols, facing emotional situations that create a strong connection with the patient. Developed by the Health UFR Simone Veil, the module has two courses: the first puts students into the perspective of a patient in pain involving awareness in the recovery room and role-playing scenarios showcasing doctors’ less-than-ideal practices. The second course places students in the role of a doctor, engaging in simulations of various cases during morphine titration.

Alignment with Manufacturing 4.0: Pfizer’s collaboration with Sphere aligns with the industry shift towards Manufacturing 4.0.

Compliance and Adaptability: Leveraging Sphere’s expertise ensures compliance with industry standards, showcasing Pfizer’s commitment to technological adaptability and innovation leadership.

Way Finding – Hospital

Challenge:

Navigating medical facilities can be stressful, leading to staff interruptions and late appointment arrivals.

Solution:

Turn-by-turn navigation provides a stress-free solution, minimising staff interruptions and reducing late arrivals.

Results:

Efficient navigation through AR turn-by-turn guidance minimises staff interruptions, optimising their time and potentially reducing operational costs, while streamlined patient navigation aims to mitigate late appointment arrivals, thereby optimising facility resources. Notably, with over $150 billion lost annually in the US due to cancelled healthcare appointments, the implementation of such strategies becomes imperative. Moreover, stress-free navigation contributes to an enhanced patient experience, fostering both retention and the attraction of new clientele, ultimately bolstering the overall effectiveness and reputation of healthcare facilities.
